Highlight time metric

26.07.2025

A new experimental metric has been launched: the highlight time metric, which can be found on the details page of a sunrise or sunset. This metric helps identify the best moment to view the sunrise or sunset.

How to use

Click a sunrise or sunset in the web-app to go to the details page for that sunrise or sunset. There you will find the highlight time which indicates when the sunrise or sunset colours are expected to be the best. Note that poor sunrises and sunsets do not have a highlight time.

How it works

The highlight time is based on the Sunsethue ray-based algorithm, which powers the daily sunrise and sunset forecasts. This algorithm proved well-suited for developing this new metric, and it opens the door for more advanced features in the future.

Experimental phase

Please note that this metric is still experimental and hasn’t yet been extensively tested. Forecasts may be inaccurate at times, so keep that in mind when using it. If you’d like to share feedback or experiences with the highlight time metric, feel free to leave a comment below or send me an email. Your input is appreciated!
